To all women in CS and IT

We cordially invite you to attend the third Computing Women Congress
(CWC) being held at the University of Waikato, Hamilton, from 11th to
13th February 2008. You will have the opportunity to meet, discuss and
debate with other women in the your field while attending some of our
more than 15 excellent courses during three days. Interesting keynotes
by IT professionals from industry and accademia are open to all women.

If you haven’t already booked your place, it is not too late to join in
– and why not bring along a friend too?

This year we are offering travel scholarships for students in New
Zealand. More information can be found here.

The Computing Women Congress is a conference for women who study or work
in Information Technology and related fields. CWC provides an open,
explorative learning and teaching environment, with an emphasis on
hands-on experience. Presentations and workshops will cover a wide range
of topics in computer science and IT, such as Web Technologies, Software
Development, Research and Career Skills, and Interdisciplinary Topics.

A lively social schedule will provide opportunities to expand your
network with other women in IT from around New Zealand and overseas. A
one-day social outing is planned for Thursday, 14th February. A list of
presentations and workshops can be found here; the registration form is
available here.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in participating in CWC,
please forward them this email. Even if you are not able to attend, we
would value your support in helping us raise awareness of the CWC.

Student papers

The Computing Women Congress invites female students to submit papers
describing your research or significant individual projects to a special
session of CWC 2008. The purpose of this session is to recognize
excellent work being conducted by CS/IS/IT students, and to offer a
friendly forum for students to showcase their work and receive
constructive feedback.

Submissions will be reviewed by the organizing committee of the CWC and
the authors of accepted papers will be given the opportunity to present
their work to CWC attendees. A volume of accepted papers will be
published as a working paper of the Computer Science Department of the
University of Waikato, and a copy of the published volume will be
distributed to student paper presenters. The best student paper will
rceive an award.

Papers may include descriptions of significant projects, the results of
previously conducted research, or discussion of research currently in
progress. The papers may be from Computer Science, Information Systems,
Information Science, or other IT-related areas. State the kind of
research described (PGDip, Masters, PhD), its status (planned, work in
progress, completed) and whether the work described in the paper is the
whole project or a part of a larger project.
