You want to support HPIs scientific research…?

HPI ist das Hasso-Plattner-Institut, das diese interessanten MOOC-Kurse anbietet. Also bitte seid so nett, im Gegenzug auch mal die Forschung dort zu unterstützen.

„Dear students!

Thank you very much for taking part in our online lecture „Knowledge Engineering with Semantic Web Technologies“!

During the course, I have several times referred to our research in Semantic Technologies. One of the many projects in our research is to develop algorithms that are able to determine the importance or relevance of facts.

A simple example:

  •     Fact (1): Albert Einstein is a physicist.
  •     Fact (2): Albert Einstein is a vegetarian.

Which fact is more important? Difficult to say and it always lies in the eye of the beholder. Probably most people might say that fact (1) is of higher importance or relevance.

Now, our algorithms must be evaluated to be able to judge their quality. Unfortunately, up to now there does not exist a ground truth for fact ranking. Therefore, we have developed a little web-based tool to crowdsource this task of creating new reference data for fact ranking…

…and this is where we need your help!

Here you will find our tool: http://s16a.org/fr/ for the creation of a ground truth to rank facts about a total of 500 popular entities from Wikipedia.

You have to register with the tool and then the task will be explained to you in detail. You might interrupt your rating of the presented facts at any time you like and continue later. To make it a bit more interesting, you can also score points and of course there is a highscore list.

We would really appreciate your help in this task. Please do also spread the word. The more participants, the more valid will be our ground truth.

We know that it is also a difficult and sometimes rather boring task. The more we would be really grateful for your assistance!

Thank you very much and best regards,
Harald Sack, the openHPI Team, and the Semantic Technologies Team“
