Ocean Exploration Trust
Forschende haben sich in einer Non-Profit-Organisation zusammengetan, um dem Ozean auf den Grund zu gehen.
Die nächste Expedition startet am 10. Jun 2026. Dabei geht es um folgende Forschungsaufgabe:

The expedition will use the deep-water mapping capabilities of … Nautilus to map previously uncharted seafloor, with the goal of filling gaps in seabed mapping and thereby supporting the priorities of … Seabed 2030.
This will be the first operational deployment of the newly installed state-of-the-art EM304 mapping system … . This technology investment, in partnership with the University of New Hampshire Center for Coastal Ocean Mapping and Kongsberg, will enable us to expand our mapping and exploration capabilities to depths never before reached.
In addition to continuous seafloor mapping operations, the expedition will include open-ocean biodiversity surveys of seabirds and other marine species.
Besseres Kartenmaterial liefert die Grundlage für bessere Klimamodelle, präzisiert Tsunami-Warnungen und erlaubt, die Sicherheit im Schiffsverkehr zu erhöhen. Das geht leider langsamer voran als nötig. Denn zum Wohle Aller wäre hier ein bisschen mehr Tempo durchaus angesagt. Nun ja, das ist in Sachen Klima ja nicht neu.
Nichtsdestotrotz – es tut sich was, das ist schon mal was. Und ich zähle auf den positiven Kipppunkt. Das wäre dann der Zeitpunkt, zu dem man die (wissenschaftlichen) Erkenntnisse nicht mehr einfach weg-ignorieren kann.
